North Shore

THE NORTH SHORE- This coastline, blessed with pristine white sand beaches - perfect, glassy walled, epic waves and tubes, is known for its world-class surfing, body boarding, body surfing, great swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in the summer months.

Extreme Caution is advised for all surfers especially during the winter months> the north shore is simply not a surf spot for new, beginner or even intermediate surfers when the high surf waves may reach heights of up to twenty-five feet plus. The surf can rise very quickly going from two feet to twenty-five feet high and larger during the course of a day. See beginner spots for a few of the best places to go.

Check out the local conditions by talking with the lifeguards before you enter into the water. The best surfers in the world ask the lifeguards about conditions, why wouldn't you? If in doubt, be wise, stay alive and just stay out!

REMEMBER!
Surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves. The surf forecast is based on the significant wave height, the average height of the one third largest waves, in the zone of maximum refraction. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height. Expect to encounter rip currents in or near any surf zone.

The Official Surf Guide of Hawaii

Surfing is a thrilling sport, and can be very dangerous.  The ocean is unforgiving and her power can be very deceptive.  Safety is the highest concern.
Aloha Surf Guide is information and guidelines to help get you started.
We recommend all beginners hire an experienced and professional surf instructor, talk to a lifeguard before you surf, and please do not surf alone!
